Beschreibung: An diesem Abend präsentieren wir euch mit Freude THE HOTTEST NEW TALENT FROM UK the one and only DJ C H A R M A from London UK (bbc1xtra/vybe_FM/Kane_FM/ Sidewinder UKPC Awards WINNER) Charma legt uns die volle bandbreite in sachen UKG heute in einem 3 Hours set nah und wird mit seinem unverwchslichem Mixstyle das MP zu kochen bringen. ARTIST INFO::::::: Meet 24 year old DJ Charma or more correctly re-introduce yourself, as everybody I’ve asked of recent seems to at least be on telephone conversation status with him, maybe that open approach to everybody involved or around the scene has helped propelled him in just 4 years to appearing on national radio, international bookings, winning and being nominated for multiple awards and recognising himself as one of the scene top pushers of new music, but how did it all begin… “I bought my first set of decks in March 2000 and taught myself after being so heavily into listening to tape packs and going to raves from back in the day, I was at Uni in Staffordshire at the time and I just wanted to play a part in spreading UKG to the masses.” In that period, deejaying was widely accepted as the new career men and boys sought after and garage music was at the height of it’s success, with those statistics it would appear obvious anybody considering a career in the scene would need to offer a lot to even stand a chance of making it “Selection has always been something I put a lot of thought into both on radio and in club land.” and it’s that selection which is to blame for his DJ moniker “I was pretty much nameless when a good friend of mine emceed over my set, I played a set of pure crowd favourites and the MC kept referring to me as the DJ charming the crowd it just stuck after that.” Despite his selection every DJ needs a first big break “My first major residency was at Warwick University and all the DJ’s I spent so long listening to on tapes in the past were guests at the monthly events and it gave me an opportunity to work directly alongside them. My first gig was a sell out with EZ and will always stay in my memory”. Since that break Charma’s DJing diary has included excursions to Birmingham, London, Stoke, Torquay, Ayia Napa, Switzerland and Russia. “Sanctuary in Birmingham has an awesome sound system and Doctor Club in Russia has an unforgettable atmosphere” Russia, I hear some of you asking but Charma assures me the sound is taken very well aboard “The assumption without seeing the reactions is to think it would be a struggle to play out in front of completely different crowds, but you couldn’t be more wrong because abroad the sound is still very fresh. It reminds me of what it use to be like here in 2000-2001, and of course there are less UKG nights in other countries so people make the most of them!” Regardless of his educational studies it’s clear Warwick University served as a useful networking tool for Charma’s deejaying career, is this what my parents meant by put your studies first?! After another gig at Warwick, Charma impressed guest DJ Spoony with his set and earned himself an appearance on BBC Radio 1 “I had a gig with Spoony, he took my number and told me he’d get me on there for ‘Dreem Teem presents…’ and a couple of months later it happened” That was in March 2001 and in January 2004 the Dreem Teem boys called him back again “They asked me to go on and play some new UKG tracks of today. Both occasions were very different, the first time they were heavily into our scene and knew what I was playing, the second time the stuff I had was completely new to them and came as a surprise as to how much good UKG there was around. Being part of the show twice was wicked and it was great to be aired nationally, the boys will never lose their eyes for good music” Charma recently came runner up in the best newcomer DJ category at the Sidewinder UKPC Awards “From the recognition point of view, finishing runner up as well as having the most popular pirate radio show was a great feeling and it was great to be amongst such wicked names” the radio show in question is his weekly show on Vybe FM. “I started my radio show on Vybe when there was very few releases around (2003) and I didn’t want to just go on pirate and do another old skool show, there were and still are enough of them. I got in touch with a few producers and started to get things through the post which gave me enough to do a full two hour show covering UKG of today and into the future. The show started to build from there and now it is basis for most of what I do. Pushing the sounds of today is something I want to be known for, especially for playing a small part in encouraging producers to keep making beats.” Which brings us to often asked question about how he perceives the current state of the scene “The scene is starting to find a balance again, but there's still some way to go. On radio the balance is now there, on pirate radio old skool shows still dominate the airwaves. On legal and of the pirate shows that are recognised, there is a strong balance across the scene representing different sounds. The club scene is now starting to follow in the same direction following on from grime's dominance in the last couple years. Vocal garage events are coming on strong again and the next step will be the acceptance of today's vocal tracks in club land. Its taking a little while out there but it is happening. What gets played in clubs develops the core of any dance music scene so from a producer's point of view and for the scene to carry on growing, it is fundamental that tracks of today are played out there and it is the responsibility of the DJ's to build tracks up so they grab the hype on the dancefloors.” “For the rest of 2004, I’m getting myself lined up for my second tour of Russia in November. I'm taking a flight at 6am to a gig on the coast of the White Sea at freezing temperatures, the next day I'm flying to Moscow for a few events in one night and then taking another two hour flight to Kazan for what was a sell out 1,500 event in February. I'm putting together a mix CD for the tour and designing t-shirts to take over with me, the scene is spreading like fire over there. Other than that my focus is developing the radio show on Vybe which has always been the most important thing to me. I'm aiming for more guests on the show and to spread its appeal to a wider audience. The same will go for 2005, a focus on showcasing new material and a weekly playback feature on the web site” Any artist, records or MC’s tips? “It's only a matter of time before a Delinquent track gets signed up to a major them boys are at the forefront of the scene. Scandalous Unlimited for both their own tunes and who they have signed up to their label, Misty Dubs, One Dark Martian, MJ Cole and Duncan Powell. DJ wise Wec and AC, as for MC's Kano, Bruiser and B-Live as always.” unterstüzt wird das Programm von Flying_H ab 22.00 - 00.30 Uhr mit Bumpy 4x4 & 2 Step!!!! start - 00.30 Uhr Flying_H & CK Trust 00.30 - 03.30 Uhr DJ CHARMA 03.30 - 05.00 Uhr CK Trust b2b Mojo from TRA @ Club Madame Pompadour Kaiserstr. 168 76...
